Merton Lodge Surgery

Medical Education

We are a training practice and supervise Registrars. GP registrars are fully qualified doctors who are doing additional training to become General Practitioners.  Please help with their training by agreeing to see them.

We also support Medical Students from Nottingham University and also Lincoln University who are normally placed with the practice for one month at a time.  Sometimes you may be asked to see the Doctor or Nurse with a student present.  You will always be asked beforehand if this is acceptable and you may ask for the student to withdraw if you prefer to have your consultation in private.

Dr Tant, our GP Partner is the training lead at the practice.

Recent feedback we have received from Students following their placements:

“From day one of my GP placement, I have been made to feel very welcome by Dr Tant and all the staff at Merton Lodge Surgery. The practice is run very efficiently and as a visiting student all of my time at the practice has been put to good use. I have experieced various aspects of the ‘patient’s journey’ by spending time observing the patient triage booking system as well as conducting many face-to-face patient consultations with Dr. Tant.  My time at Merton Lodge Surgery also included a patient home visit – which was a really great learning opportunity and enabled me to gain a holistic approach to general practice and medicine in the community.

Dr. Tant has been an exceptional GP tutor, always going above and beyond to create a professional learning environment in the clinic. This includes conducting formal clinical patient discussions prior to consulting with the patient, this is then rounded off with a de-brief / discussion after seeing the patient which enabled an excellent opportunity to reflect upon the learning and development experience with the patient.” – Year Two Student

“It was an amazing learning experience. It was an honour to spend the day with such a knowledgable clinician. Dr Tant was engaging, informative and entertaining. Dr Tants supporting staff were also great, they welcomed us and helped us around the practice. Merton lodge should be the baseline for these visits” – Year Two Student
